HOME OF SALUTING AMERICA'S BAND DIRECTORS™
According to Tournament CEO Davis Eads, “With reluctance and tremendous disappointment, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association announces that, in accordance with Governor Newsom’s Phase IV re-opening schedule, and after thoughtful consideration of the restrictions and guidelines in place as a result of COVID-19, we are unable to host the 2021 Rose Parade.” See the entire official announcement here.
Saluting America's Band Directors is, of course, disappointed that our appearance in the 2021 Rose Parade will not go on as planned, but we are very pleased to share that we have been invited to "roll over" our entry to the 2022 Rose Parade. Therefore, our exciting SABD event is merely postponed one year and we invite you to stay with us!
When we began our planning for this exciting project a few years ago, no one could have predicted that a viral pandemic would sweep the world, upending employment, sports, weddings, and virtually all aspects of our lives. We have been greatly saddened by the monumental illness and loss of life that has occurred since early this year.
We held hope that the coronavirus would be quickly vanquished, allowing us to resume our normal lives. Of course, that was not to be the case, as major and minor events throughout the world have been postponed or canceled. The Tournament of Roses has been in regular contact with the 2021 entrants as they considered all options. In the end, with thousands of Parade spectators expected, with marchers in close proximity in buses, hotels and flights to consider, it became inevitable that the Parade could not be held in January, 2021.
We have let our confirmed marchers know that they are invited to stay with us and march in the 2022 Rose Parade. We hope that if you are one of those band directors, you will respond to our email to you and let us know that you are still coming to Pasadena. If you were uncertain whether to apply because of COVID-19, or had other reasons to wait, the good news is that you can still apply to be in this historic parade, watched by millions of people.
We are planning four full days and nights in beautiful Southern California (with option for three nights) filled with tours, performances, rehearsals, a special New Year’s Eve dinner, and, of course, the Rose Parade itself. Many band directors have told us that it has been a life-long dream to march along Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena in the historic Rose Parade. And others who have already marched in the Rose Parade have described the event as a life-changing experience. It’s time to check this off your bucket list! Come join us.
...were already confirmed to march for the 2021 Parade and have not received an email from us, please contact us at questions@banddirectorsalute.org. By the way, some of you may want to consider changing your email address with us from your employment email address to a personal one. Many times, school and company systems filter emails and send them to "junk mail" folders. If you'd like to do that, simply notify us with both old and new address here: questions@banddirectorsalute.org
